Glai Baan in Phoenix, Arizona, Is It Worth The Hype?
Hey foodies! It’s Ella here, and today I’m diving into one of my absolute favorite spots in Phoenix—Glai Baan. When you are in Phoenix and mention Thai food, you will always hear about Glai Baan. Everyone talks about it, so it must be delish, right? As someone who loves Thai food, I went in with big expectations. Spoiler alert: Glai Baan did not disappoint!
The Vibe
The vibe at Glai Baan is amazing—so cute and cozy. I've been twice, and both times were memorable. Once, I sat outside, and the outdoor setup is delightful with twinkle lights and fun, colorful tablecloths. It’s a funky, vibrant atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The inside is very homey and indie, with walls covered in what I assume are photos of the owners' family and cool Thai ads. It’s a small space but packed with character and warmth.
The Food
Now, let’s talk about the star of the show—the food. Glai Baan’s menu is packed with traditional Thai dishes that are bursting with flavor. I love food spots where you can order dishes to share because I always want to try a bit of everything. Here are some of my must-try favorites:
Kanom Jeeb (Thai Pork Dumplings): These are the best pork dumplings I've ever had. Perfectly steamed and full of flavor, they are a must-order.
Papaya Salad: Be warned, it’s on the spicy side! If you’re sensitive to spice, make sure to let your server know because when they say spicy, they mean it.
Panang Curry: This was my favorite dish. The curry was rich and creamy with just the right amount of heat.
Pad Kee Mao: Another favorite, the flavors are robust and satisfying.
Nua Num Tok (Spicy Strip Loin Dish): This dish was an absolute delight, an explosion of flavors that was truly an "orgasm in my mouth."
Larb Moo: This dish is incredible, packed with different flavors from sweet to spicy and citrusy, with a great mix of textures from onions to cilantro.
Mango Sticky Rice: The perfect ending to an amazing meal. The mango rice dessert is on par with the entire dining experience. I will be dreaming of this food every day until I come back.
The Experience
The portions are smaller than what you might be used to, but every bite is full of flavor. The service at Glai Baan is great. I went for lunch on a weekday, and the wait wasn't too long. The staff is friendly and attentive, making sure you have a wonderful dining experience.
Final Thoughts
So, is Glai Baan worth the hype? Absolutely. From the cozy ambiance and friendly service to the mouthwatering dishes, it’s a dining experience you won’t want to miss. Whether you’re a Thai food aficionado or a newbie looking to try something new, Glai Baan is the place to be.
