Best Indian Food in Mexico City: Top 5 Must-Try Spots

Mexico City is the best city for food in the world, in my opinion, because of the diversity of this city. I lived there for 2 1/2 years, and I literally lived across the street from a very Korean neighborhood, so I was almost always shopping in Korean supermarkets for my produce. I know, when you think Mexico City, you're not thinking about how multicultural it is, but come on, like the Al Pastor wouldn't have been invented if it were not for the Lebanese immigrants who brought the spit. So, Indian food is definitely a prevalent thing in Mexico City and I feel like it’s on the up right now.

I know I was craving it a lot, and my bestie Juan and I went on a hunt to find the best spots. So, here are my favorites!

5. Suvai

Address: Zacatecas 139, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Suvai was a delightful find! Juan and I were immediately drawn to its cozy atmosphere. We started with the butter chicken, which was absolutely delicious. The spices and flavors were spot on, and it felt like a true taste of India. The staff was friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even better. If you're ever in the mood for some authentic Indian cuisine, Suvai should be on your list!

4. Elephant House

Address: Av. Isaac Newton 268, Polanco, Polanco V Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11570 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Elephant House in Polanco is a bit fancier than your usual spot, but the food is absolutely worth it. Juan and I couldn't stop raving about the chicken masala and butter chicken. The flavors were incredible, and the service was top-notch. We also tried the Mix Tandoori and Lamb Vindaloo, which were both fantastic. If you're in Polanco, treat yourself to a meal here—you won't regret it.

Recommended dishes: Mix Tandoori, Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Vindaloo, Raita, Chicken Masala, Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken.

3. Lord Buddha Restaurant

Address: C. Querétaro 225, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Located in Mercado Roma, Lord Buddha Restaurant was a wonderful surprise. Juan and I were welcomed by the chef, who prepares everything fresh with love. We ordered a masala dosa, fish curry, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and rice. Every dish had its authentic flavor, and the portions were generous enough for leftovers. The fun Mercado atmosphere added to the experience. A big thanks to Chef Krishna and his partner for such a satisfying meal!

2. Indian Desi Tadka

Address: Av. Yucatan 26, Hipódromo, Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Indian Desi Tadka may be tucked away in a casual food joint area, but the flavors are anything but ordinary. Juan and I were pleasantly surprised by the authentic and mouthwatering dishes. We ordered Poori Bhaji, Cholle Bhature, mix vegetable pakoras, and mango lassi. Everything was delicious, though the Gulab Jamun was a bit of a letdown. Still, the overall experience was fantastic and easy on the wallet. Don't let the unassuming location fool you—this hidden gem is a must-try for Indian food lovers!

1. Indian Grill Condesa

Address: Av. Tamaulipas 149, Hipódromo Condesa, Cuauhtémoc, 06170 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Indian Grill Condesa quickly became my go-to spot for Indian food. The place has a casual vibe, but the food is anything but. I tried the samosas, which had tastier spices than most I’ve had, and the chicken Madras curry, which was very good, though the portion was a bit small. The prices were reasonable, so maybe that explains the portion size. For dessert, the Gulab Jamun was a bit pricey for just two balls, but they were delicious. The chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and basmati rice were all wonderful. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Exploring the Indian food scene in Mexico City has been a delightful journey. From the cozy atmosphere of Suvai to the bustling vibes of Mercado Roma at Lord Buddha Restaurant, each spot offers a unique taste of India's rich culinary heritage. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Indian cuisine or a newbie eager to dive into bold and aromatic flavors, these top 5 picks won't disappoint.
